But ..if overdone..may tend to fall FLAT ..
After JUDWAA ...FATHER-SON duo reprise the 1995 GOVINDA starrer superhit directed by DAVID ji himself..(his 45th directorial) ..which itself was a remake of 1993 Tamil film "CHINNA MAPILLAI"
Comparisons are inevitable...especially when the predecessor is a cult film & filling its shoes is an arduous task
"First Impression is the Last Impression" goes a saying...(the underwhelming trailer did set the expectations down)
But "Don't Judge a book by it's cover" goes a belief too.....
The former wins hands down here...
The essence of the film remains the same..
A Matchmaker (JAAVED JAFFERY filling for SADASHIV.A) after being humiliated by a Rich Arrogant Hotelier(PARESH RAWAL filling in as KADER KHAN) ..cries vengeance..
To avenge this..he impersonates a local coolie (VARUN D as GOVINDA)as a billionaire to marry rich Hotelier's daughter..(SARAH for KARISHMA)
What follows next are LIES..LIES & more LIES leading to misunderstanding ..chaos & then ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL..
RUMI JAFFERY modifies the screenplay just slightly
Dialogues are funny only at places with few punches that evoke genuine laughter
Two BIGGEST LETDOWNS are Supporting Cast which are reduced to caricatures & MUSIC
Two songs from original gives you nostalgia & save the day
VARUN DHAWAN...difficult to get into GOVINDAs shoes..but is sincere & the only saving grace
SARA ALI KHAN.. is just a glamour doll
PARESH RAWAL...is the weakest in recent times
RAJPAL YADAV...seems in JUDWAA hangover
JAAVED JAFFERY....is wasted
JOHNNY LEVER..is funny in limited screen time
Even if watched with a clean slate..this is one of DAVID DHAWAN's weaker films...
Revisit 1995 again..!!!
