R. Madhavan is an actor who is known for his work in the Tamil film industry and also in the Bollywood film industry. However, he has also acted in a few Kannada and Malayalam films.  Incidentally ‘Alaipayuthey’ was the movie that launched his acting career in general and also in the Tamil film industry. When it comes to the Bollywood film industry, he is well known for his work in 3 Idiots, a movie that held the position of being the highest-grossing Indian film for a good few years. However, before his launch into the industry, he worked in various Hindi serials and was unable to land an acting role for the first few years, and one that he was chosen for got shelved even before the beginning production. Many movies that he’s worked in have received critical acclaim. 1990-2001 was the time period where he got his breakthrough. He was the first debutant actor to be cast in the lead role of a film by Mani Ratnam.

2002-2004 was R. This was his era where he made his own space in the film industry with his phenomenal acting skills.

Following that, till 2008, his work increased in Bollywood. Rang De Basanti was the movie that set him up in Bollywood. Other movies that he worked in were Guru, where he was dubbed ‘a poster boy for India’ and Mumbai Meri Jaan. However, he continued his work in Tamil movies, receiving acclaim there as well.

For the next seven years, R. Madhavan continued his successful career. He worked in movies like Yavarum Nalam, 3 Idiots, and Teen Patti, where he was cast alongside Amitabh Bacchan and Ben Kingsley.
